How It's Made

All Green Man packaging is made from natural, renewable plant materials and can be composted together with organic food waste after use.

Our entire range is independently certified 100% compostable by leading European and US authorities including OK Compost by Vincotte and The Biodegradable Product Institute (BPI). Certification certificates are available on request.

The natural plant crops used to make our packaging include sugarcane, corn and sustainable birchwood. After harvesting the edible crops, the leftover organic matter is processed to extract the usable materials. These materials include the waste fibres from the sugarcane plant (known as bagasse) and the natural plant starch derived from corn (known as PLA). After processing these materials can be moulded into a variety of shapes including plates, cups, cutlery and takeaway boxes.

Our products are of extremely high quality and boast the following certifications;

Certified Food Safe
The market's most comprehensive food migration certification.

Certified Compostable
Our products boast an independent compostability certification and are widely accepted for commercial composting.

Traceable Supply Chain
Our products are fully traceable and are made in quality controlled conditions from sustainably sourced or recycled materials.

Materials

The materials used to make our products are sustainably sourced, annually renewable, lower carbon and recycled where possible. Listed below are our most popular packaging materials and their common uses.

Sugarcane Bagasse
Sugarcane Bagasse
The natural waste fibres from the sugarcane plant.
Great for making hot food take-away packaging, plates and bowls. Cost effective and provides a great heat insulating barrier. Unlike polystyrene, the porous nature of bagasse allows food to breathe more and reduces the tendency for food to "sweat" in transit.
Suitable for oven or microwave use.
PLA (Polylactic Acid)
PLA (Polylactic Acid)
The naturally occurring plant starch derived from crops like corn which is pressed into a bio-polymer material known as PLA.
Used to make our range of cold drinks cups, lids, straws, deli and salad containers. It is also used to make the internal food grade lining in our coffee cups and soup containers.
CPLA / RCPLA
CPLA / RCPLA
Made from the same material as PLA but with added heat resistance properties.
We use this material to make products like our coffee and soup lids. The "R" in RCPLA stands for recycled. Our plant starch cutlery is made from the recycled off-cuts from the CPLA lids and is actually the world's first recycled, fully compostable cutlery!
Sustainable Forest Source
Sustainable Forest Source
For our paper and paperboard products we use material originating from sustainably managed forests.
Used in our coffee cups, kraft takeaway boxes, bakery bags and sandwich wedges.
Recycled Paper
Recycled Paper
Our products made from recycled paper and pulp include paper carrier bags, coffee clutches and coffee cup carriers.
These products can be recycled again or composted after use.
Palm Leaf
Palm Leaf
Made from naturally fallen Areca Palm leaves.
Our Palm leaf products are made from naturally fallen Areca Palm leaves which are beautifully pressed into shape.
